Overview

The Walsh Group is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician for our WIM Group, located in Mechanicsburg, PA.

Maintenance of roadway and bridge elements in accordance with contract requirements. Ensure completed work meets contract obligations and specifications. Work with and or assist subcontractors. Conduct maintenance and repairs of bridge and roadway assets including but not limited to; drainage systems, asphalt and concrete paved surfaces, guiderails, vegetation, roadway signs and all other components associated with the maintenance and care contained within the contract limits. Must be available after regular business hours or weekends for emergency response and accomplish work in a professional and respectful manner. Ensures work meets contract specifications while working in a safe and efficient manner. 

Responsibilities

  • Creates safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) control by setup and removal of traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
  • Must be able to work from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts. 
  • Proficiently apply knowledge and skills to maintenance/repair roadway asphalt, concrete pavements and associated components as required.
  • Repairs and maintains the functionality of roadway and bridge systems and associated components/assets utilizing mechanical equipment, power tools, chainsaws, basic hand tools, etc.
  • Assist varied crew and equipment on work sites operating vehicle large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
  • Required to be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Undertake washing of bridge decks, bearings and removal of debris.
  • Conduct daily assessments such as bridge, pavements, signs, guiderails, turf condition, vegetation, lighting and other contract requirements and report finding to supervisor. Provide analysis of work needs based on condition assessments and contract performance requirements.
  • Utilize best approach for bringing assets into contract compliance considering cost, timeliness and efficiency.  Undertakes preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Responds to incident emergencies and jointly work with on-site responders; makes suggestions for methods to reduce expenses and improve efficiency; and execute all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years roadway/bridge maintenance or other highway maintenance related experience preferred. Experience in working with PennDOT preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (Required)

  • Highly Desirable experience, certification and licenses:

    • Intermediate or Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
    • Equipment operation experience
    • Concrete forming experience
    • DOT certifications in concrete, asphalt, soils and compaction & inspection
  • Requires good manual dexterity; may be standing, bending, kneeling or sitting for long periods; may be required to work in various weather conditions; ability to lift to 50lbs.
  • Ability to travel will be a key requirement of this role, including regular overnight stays.
