Walsh is currently seeking Underwriting Counsel for our Chicago, IL Office.

  • Assess contractual risk on behalf of the company for all Owner contracts
  • Conduct various legal research as needed
  • Insurance claims management as needed
  • Communicate to senior leadership all contractual risk associated with Owner contracts
  • Facilitate conversations with clients on contractual risk management
  • Educate employees on risk management and contract underwriting
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and bidding procedures for underwriting
  • Communicate all necessary data to bonding company concerning bonds and invoices
  • Maintain Powers of Attorney for Travelers
  • Manage the approvals for all projects below the $70MM authority line provided by bonding company
  • Liaison between company and Travelers, bonding company
  • Liaison between company and Aon, insurance broke


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • 1-2 years of practical relevant experience
  • Admission to a state bar
  • Insurance knowledge preferred
  • Bonding experience preferred
  • Contract negotiation experience is a plus
  • Construction background preferred
  • Ability to assess potential risks, benefits and consequences of decisions
  • Travel as necessary to attend meetings, conduct trainings, and investigations
  • Maintain relationships with senior leaders across The Walsh Group
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Process oriented
