  • Overview

    The Strategic Projects Department is searching for an attorney to join our group which primarily supports our company with respect to project procurements and contract negotiations. We are in need of a full-time attorney with approximately one to three years of experience to assist with underwriting risk with respect to projects we are pursuing, providing risk management solutions, and drafting and negotiating various contracts including partnership agreements, design agreements and owner construction contracts. Our new attorney will learn quickly with immediate hands-on experience and independent responsibility.

    • Utilize and continue to develop knowledge of legal issues relating to project procurement and design and construction so as to effectively underwrite and manage risk and to negotiate agreements with designers, joint venture partners, subcontractors and project owners.
    • Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting/analyzing procurement documents including preconstruction agreements, owner contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and all other ancillary agreements.
    • Identify contractual issues that require modification, propose modifications, and effectively negotiate owner construction and preconstruction contracts, typically valued from $20 million to in excess of $1 billion per project.
    • Second-tier responsibility for our company's complex project pursuits such as Public Private Partnership projects.
    • Underwriting all contract documents pre-bid.
    • Conduct legal research as necessary.
    • Working closely with the project teams and our partners to adequately address risk and costs. Act as the point of contact for contract management within the company and organization of all pursuits within our service group.
    • Negotiating the contract documents with the owner in one on one sessions ad upon award, achieving commercial and financial close of the projects.
    • Post-award review of Owner contracts, preparation of memorandum detailing Owner contract administration requirements for the project team to ensure our teams follow contract requirements without waiver and traveling to the project site to present such documents to the team and participate in discussion and understanding of the Owner contract and risks.


    • J.D. Degree required
    • 1-3 years of transactional and/or construction-related legal experience
    • Ability to negotiate contractual legal and commercial issues
    • Problem solving skills together with the confidence to take initiative and a leadership role on projects
    • Strong communication skills and attention to detail 
    • Strong time management and organizational skills
    • Supporting Senior Contract Counsel across the Building, Transportation, and Water Divisions
